What Are Card Advantages?
Apart from the basic Visa credit card benefits, such as auto rental insurance and zero fraud liability, you can expect the following advantages as a Mission Lane cardholder.
No security deposit requirements
Since this is an unsecured credit card, you don’t have to put down a security deposit to start building or improving your credit.
No hidden fees
This card comes with clear and transparent pricing, with no hidden fees to surprise you down the line. There are no activation, monthly maintenance, or over-limit fees either.
Instant approval
Even if you have a bad credit score (a FICO score below 580) or no credit history, you can get instant approval. The only caveat is that you need to have the invitation to apply, which you can get through any of their partner sites. Otherwise, you’ll need to sign up for the waitlist.
Credit limit increase
If you use your card responsibly, you can become eligible for a credit limit increase over time. You can’t request a higher credit limit, but the issuing bank will review your account to determine if you’re eligible for a limit increase. If you’re in good standing after the first seven months, that is, provide full, on-time payments during that period, the bank will bump up your credit limit. That way, you can maintain a low credit utilization and build a good credit score.
Credit bureau reports
If you’re a responsible cardholder, you can build or improve your credit score quickly with this card, as the bank will report your credit card activity to all three major credit bureaus.
Are There Any Disadvantages?
Although this Mission Line Visa card is one of the better unsecured credit card options, it comes with several drawbacks.
High fees
This card comes with foreign transaction fees, which may be a deal-breaker if you’re a frequent traveler. There are late payment and cash advance fees to keep in mind as well, although you don’t have to worry about them if you use the card responsibly. Like most unsecured credit cards, this one comes with an annual fee, which is fixed and relatively low compared to many other cards in the same category. Still, you might be able to get a better deal with a secured credit card with no annual fees and a refundable security deposit.
High APR
This card’s variable APR is higher than the average industry interest rates, even for an unsecured card for bad credit. Unless you’re confident that you’ll provide all your monthly payments on time and in full, you might want to look into alternative options.
The relatively low initial credit limit
The low initial credit limit may be a disadvantage, but you can get an increase after only seven months of responsible use.
No rewards
If you’re hoping to get a signup bonus, a cashback on eligible purchases, or any other rewards while building your credit, then this might not be the card for you, as it doesn’t offer any of those perks. While unsecured credit cards for bad credit don’t typically provide such benefits, you can find many that do, thus offsetting some of your cardholder costs.
What makes it different
As a Mission Lane cardholder, you get access to some useful free financial and educational tools for building your credit. You can manage your account 24/7 through Mission Lane LLC’s website or download their mobile app to monitor your spending and credit score on the go. Phone technical support is also free if you ever need to talk with an expert. The consumer finance company offers free credit-building educational resources as well. You can access all the short videos anytime on the website.
Should You Apply for Mission Line Visa?
The Mission Lane Visa credit card is a great choice if you have bad credit or want to build it from scratch. With no security deposit requirements and instant approval, regardless of your FICO score, you can get started right away and even increase your credit limit in only 7 months. Since it reports to all major credit bureaus, it can help you build a positive credit score in no time, as long as you use it responsibly. However, it requires annual fees, has a high APR, and offers no rewards, so look into alternatives if any of those is a deal-breaker for you. You can find many unsecured credit cards with rewards and a lower APR, as well as their secured counterparts with no annual fees.
