Our Take

People with less-than-perfect credit will find the First Digital NextGen Mastercard Credit Card offer to be an excellent tool for building good credit. Applying for this card is incredibly easy, and getting approved is much easier than with most starter credit cards for bad credit. Apart from very low application requirements and high approval ratings, the Digital NextGen card comes with several more benefits to look forward to. It does have high fees and APR, but it can still come in pretty handy when you want to build or rebuild your credit score.

Who Is this First Digital NextGen Card for?

The First Digital NextGen Mastercard Credit Card is purposefully designed for all those looking to improve a bad credit score. People who may have had credit issues in the past and want to repair their FICO score can do so easily with this card. People with no credit history at all can also benefit from this offer and quickly reach better financial stability. So, if you want to build or rebuild your credit and create credit history, the First Digital credit card might be a good fit for you.

What are the First Digital NexGen Card Benefits?

  • Made to build credit. This credit card doesn’t have any rewards or additional perks, but its sole purpose is to help you build up your credit, after all.
  • 3 -bureaus credit reporting. First Digital reports your monthly credit usage and payment activity to all 3 major credit bureaus, it can help you improve your credit score fairly quickly.
  • No security deposit is needed. The card is an unsecured starter card and the issuer requires no security deposit to open the account. You only need to have a checking account and meet the other low application requirements.
  • Annual credit increase. There is the possibility of increasing your credit limit. Although you get a low initial spending limit, you may be eligible to increase it after 12 months of responsible use.

Are There Any Disadvantages?

  • The starter credit limit is low. The low initial credit limit of $300 might deter some consumers from applying for this card. The limit is set low because the card is primarily a tool for repairing credit. And since it is an unsecured card that doesn’t require a security deposit, you simply can’t control the spending you get. However, it’s a good thing you may be able to increase it later on.
  • High rates and fees. The greatest disadvantage of this starter credit card is the bevy of high rates and fees. Its fees might be more than enough to push you away, as well as the fact that it has one of the highest APRs on the market. You can avoid high-interest rates and late payment fees by always providing full payments on time and keeping your spending below 30% of your credit limit.
  • Can hurt your credit score. If you use the First Digital NextGen card irresponsibly, you will hurt your credit score.

Should You Use the First Digital NextGen Card?

This credit card is truly an excellent choice when you want to boost your credit score or establish a good credit history from scratch. If you can’t afford a security deposit that comes with secured credit cards, then this card might be a good option for you. If you can afford a security deposit, you might be better off with a secured credit card. This is because Digital NextGen comes with high fees and APR, which you don’t get back like the refundable deposit with secured cards.
If you think you can provide all your payments in full and on time – every single month – to avoid higher APR and fees, then go for it, because you’ll be able to build good credit quickly that way. But if you don’t think you can afford it all and always be punctual with your payments, then this card might not be a sound choice for you.

Helpful for poor credit

Another commenter mentioned how her credit score dropped after falling back on a cash loan for surgery and I had a similar experience. My medical bills drove me to bankruptcy a few years ago and it’s been a long journey getting back on my feet. First Digital Mastercard was the only card I found to be decent for poor credit scores and I applied for it immediately. It’s slowly helping me build up my score but I have a long journey ahead.

Just what I need to improve credit scores

I never knew that a small cash loan could create such massive problems in the long-run. I needed some cash to pay for a surgery I had, and once I didn’t return it on time, my credit score went down faster than a speeding rocket. I reviewed many bad credit cards, and this one seemed to have the best features. It comes with a 75 dollar annual fee, which is acceptable if you ask me. I just hope that it’s really going to help me get back on my feet.
